Not content to revolutionize the light pickup segment in just one major way (cough cough aluminum cough), Ford is introducing a huge number of new technologies that will be available on the 2015 Ford F-150. Here’s a quick 2-minute rundown of some of my favorites:
360-Degree Camera
Lots of cars come with rear-view cameras nowadays, and some vehicles, like the 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor, have optional front-view cameras. The 2015 F-150 improves on that by introducing a 360-degree camera, so that drivers will have a ‘birds-eye view of the truck’. This will help making things like parking and maneuvering in tight spaces much easier, and personally, I can’t wait to see how well this works in action.
Basically, there are cameras mounted on all four sides of the F-150. On screen, you’ll have a number of options, including a split screen where the left side shows the normal rear view camera (including distance guide-lines), while right side of the screen shows a composite image of all four sides, viewed from the top of the truck. Its very cool.

110-Volt/400-Watt Inverter Outlets
Power outlets in vehicles are becoming more and more commonplace, but often they don’t provide or produce enough juice to really power very much. The F-150 will be available with two outlets (one in the front, and on vehicles with a center console, on the rear of the console) that can deliver up to 400 watts when the truck is stationary, or up to 300 watts when in motion. This will be perfect for on-the-job connectivity so that you can plug in laptops, or charge tablets, phones, power tools – you name it. This is a great feature for small and large businesses alike, because you can’t act quickly if you can’t stay connected, and these outlets will help you stay on top of your work.
Dynamic Hitch Assist
This is an improvement on existing rear-view camera technology. Ford’s rear-view cameras already come with an overlay with distance markers and tire path indicators. Dynamic Hitch Assist will help drivers better position the truck up to a trailer coupler by using a centerline in the display to help guide the truck. As you steer, the direction of the projected path adjusts on-screen, reducing the need for a spotter or getting in and out of the truck to get in postion. It turns a 5-minute task for two people into a 2-minute task for one person.
